hazy lake

We took a family trip to the park so I could finish this. I was happy with what the first effort taught me, but I was curious, so I continued.

I stopped at this point, even though discrepancies remained. It's really just a warm-up after all. And I was warm, I tell you. My umbrella wouldn't stay put, and nobody was willing to hold it for me. Imagine that.

Fear is giving way to enjoyment. I struggle to know a good subject when I see one. I'm not sure what amount of detail to strive for. I don't know how my landscapes will evolve. But I enjoy playing with color, so this is becoming fun.

On the way to the park, I listened to Dusty Springfield. Her craft and her stage persona triumphed over insecurities. She was expressive, versatile (an understatement), and very brave. Ah, if I could paint like Dusty sang...

I grinned really big when I read your line "Fear is giving way to enjoyment." Fantastic. Don't worry about detail or how your landscapes will evolve. Just go on a treasure hunt for colors and shapes each time you paint. The rest will follow.
This little piece, by the way, is lovely.

Yes! You are getting there. And if you are enjoying the process, that's worth a lot.

If you haven't gotten a copy of Payne's "Composition of Outdoor Painting" I highly recommend it. Come to think of it, I need to review it myself!

Hi Diana. Starting is hard for me. After that, it's fun. I hope that changes in time.
I'll get a copy of the book. Thank you!
