The Lady of Shallot

6x8 oil on canvas panel

When I met my husband, he had three art posters: Edvard Munch's The Scream, Bouguereau's La Bohemienne, and Waterhouse's The Lady of Shalott.

The Scream was always a cheeky image to hang in Eric's office. He is a psychologist.

La Bohemienne hangs in our room. Eric feels that it resembles me, including the forlorn expression. But I swear, I have prettier feet.

I think we lost the Waterhouse, so I endeavored to paint a replacement today. I should have left the shallots on their little styrofoam boat from the grocer.

Cheese and Onions, the Rutles (Beatles parody)
The Lady of Shalott, Loreena McKennitt.
Onions Make Me Cry, Rolf (the Muppet Show)

Well, these are delightful. When I first saw them, something reminded me of Cezanne. I have no idea what that was all about, but it was a good thought. I especially enjoy your arrangement. You've given visual actual to a potentially quiet subject.

Edit that comment I just made. "You've given visual ACTUAL..." What does that mean? Drats! I meant to say "visual activity"....

Found your blog via OnPainting. Love your style of painting and writing - and this one is definitely a proper replacement for the Warehouse. Would have been indeed appropriate to lay those lovely shallots in the boat.

So, when you were done painting these little beauties, did you include them in supper?

Pretty feet are an invaluable asset; they look good and take you places. I think you should do a painting to give them the recognition they deserve.

Thanks, Dianne.
Maybe Cezanne had a few good shallot recipes? I'm sure that's what it was.

Nava, thank you. Your blog is a fun read, and I adore the recurring image of a woman with folded hands.

Hi Bill, the shallots are still posing for the next painting, which remains incomplete due to a headache. I have an idea tucked away for zoomed-in self-portrait images, that just may include feet. Give me a year or so to get around to it.

Thank you very much, Rhonda.
One of these days I need to give pastels a whirl...the rich colors in your work are yummy.
