garlic and onion

6x8 oil on canvas panel, private collection

Most of my cooking starts with garlic and onion. I can't think of a dish that doesn't start with garlic and onion. If you come over for dinner, bring dessert, to ensure that it doesn't have garlic and onion.

This simple color combination is so clean and satisfying. And the bowl is wonderfully reflective!

thank you so much, Laurel!

Yes, I agree with Laurel, very nice clean colors and striking composition! I love how dark the bowl is...and I'm the same way when I cook, but my repeat ingredients are onions and steak seasoning. It's pitiful, I know.

Dar, you don't know me, but I'm an artist just starting to blog. Your color choices are consistently exquisite. They are so rich and I love the texture of the bowl. There's something about the composition where the garlic is concerned. It seems a little too static and centered. Just a thought.

Wow, Dar, this is awesome!! Everything about it: colors, handling, division of space, cropping on one side...it's perfect.

And I agree, everything (except maybe chocolate cake) should start w/garlic and onion.

Dar, a little surprise is awaiting you on my blog.

Oh, and - at the Garlic Festival in Gilroy, they have garlic ice cream and garlic wine.

Hello Dar, I love your painting. I also have an award for you on my blog.

Dar- look at those white reflected shadows on that ceramic bowl! Just beautiful and the simplicity of the onion off center, happy to be a supporting actor and very understatedly serene.

You really did a keen job of seeing that bowl. And yes the colors too are perfect.

Onions, garlic - maybe a dab of butter is all that's missing from the pan.

Thanks everyone for the thoughtful comments. It really helps me, so I appreciate it! I've been a busy Mom, but I wanted to check in.

Diane, you can't beat steak seasoning, it's all there in one jar!
Faye, welcome! I appreciate the feedback. Enjoy blogging.
Jala, I'd be happy to share a chocolate cake with you some time.
Nava, we saw a TV show about a garlic festival like that. Hey, I'll try anything once. And thank you for the honor.
Debbie, thank you so much. I appreciate it.
Bonnie, when I'm frustrated that I can't move to a place of freer brushwork for a while, I remember that all that sitting and staring at an object is worthwhile.
