paper rose

6x8 oil on paper

I had a quick opportunity, so I tried the rose again, this time on gessoed watercolor paper. It was an interesting surface, similar to board. After initially sinking in, the paint maintains a nice level of luminosity.

Paper Roses, Marie Osmond
When I was a kid, my Dad sang this to me as "pepperoni."

Oh Dar both of your rose paintings are lovely. I love the leaves too. I have never painted a rose, flowers are complicated little things.

Thanks, Barb. Yes, ugh, flowers are complicated. I kept singing to myself "just keep squinting, just keep squinting."

Roses can be especially difficult, especially a deep red colored one! Keep up the good work.

OH Dar!!! You're BACK!!!!

I hadn't seen anything posted in so long that I stopped looking... thinking that you must have given up blogging!!

It's so good to hear from you again... Sounds like our most important treasure (family) has been taking your time ... hopefully things are better now.

Be well... keep your loved ones close... and I'm glad you are back to blogging and painting.

Hi Dar,

I love your blog! I spent some time visiting your last few posts. I also visited the Cezanne and Beyond exhibited. I visited Brandywine last year before Andrew died.

Roses are so complicated, but I think you did a great job! I really love your dimming datura! The composition is very dramatic.

Marian, it's so funny, sometimes I think I paint to participate in blogging. I've been watching your adventures all the while, in Reader. I'm thrilled for your many accomplishments! Thanks for the good wishes.

Neetzy, welcome! I enjoyed my look around your blog too, and made sure to bookmark it.
Thanks very much!
