New Mother Love

9x12 oil on canvas
This is a piece I did a few months ago, just to see what the experience would be like. I hope to do figurative work in the future.

I can't paint today. I viewed Invisible Children with my family last night. I'm still processing what I saw. I know art has a place, and it needn't be esoteric or elitist. But I feel self-indulgent picking up a brush today.

The mother in the painting is in love with her newborn, whom she has fed at her breast. My job today is to find a way to feed and nurture children.

thank you, little newman. You're a hoot. You make me miss London; I visited last autumn. Mmm, clotted cream, treacle sponge... yeah, the art was nice too.
